How to Reheat Leftover Fast Food Without Ruining It

Leftover fast food gets an unfair reputation for being disappointing — and often, that's not the food's fault, it's the reheating method. A microwave is convenient but frequently the worst tool for the job, turning crispy items soggy and drying out anything that was originally moist.

The Right Method for Each Type

Fried items (burgers, crispy chicken) reheat best in an oven or air fryer at moderate heat for 5–8 minutes — this restores crispness that a microwave destroys. Saucy dishes (karahi, biryani) reheat best on the stovetop in a covered pan with a splash of water, which restores moisture without drying anything out.

  • Fried chicken/burgers: air fryer or oven at 180°C for 6–8 minutes, not microwave.
  • Pizza: dry pan on medium heat, covered, for 3–4 minutes — crisps the base without drying toppings.
  • Karahi/biryani: stovetop, covered, low heat, splash of water, 3–4 minutes.
  • Shawarma/paratha rolls: dry pan, 1–2 minutes per side, to re-crisp the bread.
